2006 Advanced Institute for School Library
Media Specialists
Sponsored by OELMA and Wright State University
Offering timely professional development for the school librarian.
The 2006 Advanced Institute for School Library Media Specialists will build
upon the success of the first institute in 2005. We will again offer the first
professional development module, Can You Find the Evidence-based Practice
in Your School Library in June. In July we will pilot module two, Developing
Strategies for Establishing Evidence-based Practice in Your School Library,
a module designed to take module one participants a step further.
Ever since licensure requirements changed, OELMA has been aware
of the need to provide ongoing professional development opportunities for school
library media specialists, in a single statewide effort. Our regional workshops
have been very popular but OELMA wanted a way to also bring consistent professional
development to every region. The Board decided on the concept of a Speaker's
Bureau to provide continuity to each presentation, and beginning in the fall
of 2005, trainers held workshops across the OELMA regions.
Three professional development modules are being planned by OELMA, in cooperation
with Wright State University. The first module, Can You Find the Evidence-based
Practice in Your School Library, debuted in July 2005. The second module,
Developing Strategies for Establishing Evidence-based Practice in Your School
Library makes its debut in July 2006 when the module is piloted for the
first time.
