Session 1: Bricks & Mortar in Cyberspace: Second Life

Presenter: Gerry Davis, NWOET Educational Technology Specialist

Description: Our experiences in the “real world” often bear little resemblance to those in cyberspace. In cyberlearning, people are often less influenced by social interaction than we would hope. What are the implications for learning when the fabric of face-to-face human interaction has been removed?  In contrast to the real world, Learning Mangement Systems such as Blackboard are a weak substitute for the classroom. Might Second Life promote the rich experience to change this paradigm?
