Congratulations Rebecca Lambert!  Rebecca is OELMA’s Rosen Publishing Ohio School Librarian of the Month - June.  She is the library media specialist at Struthers High School (Struthers City School District).

As Rebecca explained in her nomination “Read Across America Week is widely celebrated in elementary schools, but sometimes middle and high schools don’t celebrate or participate. To make it simple and easy, I came up with a simple and easy activity that can be used in either middle or high school - it’s called Story Kiosk.

Goal and Learning Objectives of Story Kiosk

The goal of the Story Kiosk is to celebrate Read Across America Week in March by allowing student and staff to reflect on a person, author, or book that has been impactful to them. Those completing the note card were asked to select two of the prompts:

• A book that impacted you

• A book/story that is important to you

• A person or story that got you reading

• Someone who changed your life by sharing a book or story

• A time when you heard a story that changed you or helped you make a change

• The way books have affected your life and family

Duration of Story Kiosk

Although Read Across America is a week, Story Kiosk was held for one month.

Necessary Supplies

Story Kiosk bulletin board, note cards for students and staff to complete.

Instructions and/or Procedures to Conduct Story Kiosk

Instructions were given to teachers through email as well as the morning announcements to encourage students and teachers to fill out a notecard to be displayed on the Story Kiosk bulletin board.

Final Results and Indicators of Success

Students and staff completed the activity and were featured on the Story Kiosk the entire month of March.
