SESSION DESCRIPTIONS:
SESSION I:
Creating and Using QR Codes in the School Library
with Marie Sabol:
Have you seen a QR code used in an advertisement,
and wondered how you can use the code in your
library? Join us for an exciting session where you
will learn how to produce a QR code, and then use
the QR code to promote your library program! Bring a
jump drive with documents (library bookmarks
bibliographies, etc.) that you think could be
enhanced with a QR code. Be ready to drive home with
some new ideas! This is a double session. Marie
Sabol is the District Media Coordinator for Hudson
City Schools and library media specialist at Hudson
Middle School in Hudson.
Scrapbooking for Literacy with Nancy Boone:
In recent years, scrapbooking has become a popular
hobby which can easily be adapted to classroom
activities to reinforce concepts across the
curriculum. This session will explore ways to use
scrapbooking as a literacy tool. Whether as a
classroom tool, class project, or an after-school
activity, making scrapbooks provides students of all
ages a creative way to practice writing and reading
skills. Nancy Boone is the library media specialist
at the Ohio School for the Deaf in Columbus.
eBooks and eReaders: What Role Will They Play in My
Library? with Angie Stitzel: We
will look at the various options for
electronic books including offerings for school
libraries, audiobooks and textbooks. In addition, we
will examine eBooks from a few different vendors and
show you where you can get free eBooks. We
will examine eBooks from INFOHIO’s Cat and Cat Jr.
Pros and cons of various eReaders will also be
discussed with an opportunity to view some of the
devices. Angie Stitzel is the library media
specialist at Butler Tech in Hamilton.
SESSION II:
Cyberbullying & Internet Safety:
Shawn Dysert from the Worthington Police Department
will provide information for parents, teachers and
children regarding cyberbullying and Internet safety
including definitions, methods, warning signs, and
solutions. Stay up-to-date with the latest
information.
Using 21st Century Tools and Ideas to Make You
Indispensable
with Winnie Milner: In times of severe budget cuts,
it is more essential than ever to promote what we
can offer to our districts. Winnie will demonstrate
and use Prezi, Glogster, Wordle, and many other 21st
century tools to show you how to promote your
library. She will also be sharing other
cost-effective and creative ways to promote your
library. Winnie Milner is the Library Media
Specialist at Warren County Career Center.
Google Apps with Joanna McNally:
Learn about the innovative and free collaborative
applications exclusively for schools and
universities with Google Apps. Joanna McNally is
the library media specialist at Orange High School
in University Heights.
SESSION III:
Facebook 101 with Lila Whyman:
Afraid to have a Facebook page for your library?
This session will go over the steps involved in
creating a Facebook page and a group page, the
differences between the two, settings and
permissions, as well as discussing the rules and
procedures to have in place. Lila Whyman, the

Lima, will be your tour guide in this session.

has changed, adapt teaching methods and discover new
ways to create deep, rigorous learning with the
INFOhio Resources. With the Learning Commons,
INFOhio has taken a graphical approach to
incorporating inquiry learning skills, national
standards, research-based instructional strategies
and a variety of electronic resources through their
IMatrix, an inquiry roadmap. Join this session to
learn how INFOhio supports information literacy
skills through quality 21st century resources and
promotes success in school, college, and the
workforce.

Gabrielle Rathge:

Public Library in Worthington, will present new and
appealing titles for elementary children.
SESSION IV:
#Twitter @Your Library with Emily Colpi:
Think Twitter is a bunch of Twaddle? Think again!
Even if your school blocks this social networking
tool, Twitter can be a valuable tool for your
library program. Learn how to stay on top of the
latest in books and authors, update your library
website or Facebook site with Twitter fees, and make
connections with students and others around the
world. Emily Colpi is the library media specialist
at Mariemont High School in Cincinnati.
LibGuides with Linda Jacobs Swarlis, Ph.D.
Have you ever wanted to create a library website
that is easy to administer, includes your handouts
as well as links to subscription databases,
bibliographies, web sites (where nonworking links
are automatically deleted) and usage statistics?
LibGuides may be the perfect solution. Attend this
session to learn what a LibGuide looks like and see
why many colleges and universities are already using
LibGuides and why many school libraries are now
joining the list of LibGuides fans. Dr. Linda
