- What will be my responsibilities as LMS if I participate in this project?
The school's LMS plays an important role in being the local coordinator, together with the project leaders, facilitating the data collection in each school. For the schools selected to participate in the study, there will be a specific procedure to follow for data collection. Each participating school will need to have as many students and teaching staff respond as possible.
- What kind of time commitment is involved?
The actual questionnaire will take about 20 minutes. The organizational time required of a SLMS will be somewhat greater.
- What is the timeframe for the project?
During March, 2003, we will be setting up the sampling process with the pool of schools for the study. In April, 2003, we will begin collecting data. All reporting will need to be completed by May, 2003 and the final results will be at the OELMA Conference in October, 2003.
- Will this project compare my school library to others in Ohio?
Definitely not. The purpose of this study is NOT to compare schools, nor to rank or rate schools. The purpose of the study is to get a cumulative picture of how school libraries help students in their learning. In order to do this, we are sampling schools with effective school library programs to present a cumulative picture of what great school libraries contribute to the learning community.
- May we nominate more than one of our buildings for the project?
Absolutely. The Ohio Expert Panel will be reviewing all nominations.
- Will the schools selected to participate in the sampling survey for the Student Learning through Ohio School Libraries project receive any individual school reports collating the information they submitted?
The results of this research project will not include any individual school reports. All data generated for this Project is cumulative data. School buildings selected to participate in the study will receive the Executive Summary of the Project findings as soon as it is released.
